CAP Construction: Technological innovations for more collaboration and integration

CAP Construction is the Walloon cluster dedicated to sustainable construction. It brings together more than 250 stakeholders from across the construction value chain, including architects, engineering firms, contractors, manufacturers, material suppliers, real estate developers, public authorities, research organisations and training centres. Its mission is to foster collaboration, strengthen competencies and accelerate innovation within the built environment sector.

As an innovation intermediary, CAP Construction facilitates the transfer of knowledge and research results to construction professionals, helping companies adopt new technologies, business models and sustainable practices. The cluster focuses on five strategic priorities: energy renovation, circular construction, low-carbon materials, digital transformation and the adaptation of buildings to changing societal needs. Through collaborative projects, pilot actions, ecosystem building and international partnerships, CAP Construction connects industry, research and public stakeholders to accelerate the deployment of innovative and sustainable solutions across the construction value chain.

A major area of activity is the acceleration of energy renovation, particularly in multi-owner residential buildings. Through dedicated initiatives such as Objectif Réno Copro, CAP Construction contributes to the development of integrated support services that help condominium owners and property managers navigate the technical, financial and organisational challenges of large-scale renovation projects.

In parallel, CAP Construction is playing a key role in the development of off-site construction in Wallonia. Through multidisciplinary working groups and collaborative initiatives, the cluster brings together manufacturers, contractors, designers, researchers and public clients to foster industrialised construction methods, integrated design processes and innovative approaches that improve productivity, quality and sustainability.

The cluster also supports the digital transition of the construction industry by promoting the adoption of technologies such as BIM, digital twins, artificial intelligence, collaborative platforms and data-driven construction processes. Building on the experience gained through the Walloon programme Construction du Futur, CAP Construction continues to raise awareness, facilitate knowledge sharing and strengthen digital skills across the sector.

The cluster is also involved in several cross-border and European cooperation projects addressing key societal and environmental challenges related to circular construction, low-carbon materials and the adaptation of buildings and services to changing demographic needs. Particular attention is given to sustainable wood value chains, circular economy approaches and innovative solutions supporting independent living and ageing populations. These initiatives strengthen collaboration between regions, facilitate knowledge transfer and support the deployment of innovative solutions at a larger scale.
